Getting Organised in 2018

I'm not usually one for setting New Year's resolutions. Goals should be realistic and frequent, rather than vague declarations proclaimed once a year. I do, however, have one goal that's been on my mind for a long time. That's to make this blog... useful. I can't help but feel that everything I publish is incredibly self-indulgent. Ooh look at this cool thing I got to do! Aah isn't my holiday wonderful? Ugh I make myself sick sometimes. So I'm making a conscious effort to improve.

Step 1 is to create a content calendar so I can plan ahead to create decent, helpful stuff. One night earlier this month, I did not feel tired at all. After tossing and turning for hours, I gave up and crept into my study to start working on my calendar template. It's probably the best thing I've ever created at 5am, so I thought I'd share it with my fellow social media content creators out there.

You can download the template as an Excel spreadsheet, PDF, HTML file, or simply use it within Google Docs. It's helpful to have the calendar automatically synced from my phone wherever I go.

Last year I tried the whole bullet journey malarky, but it was time-consuming and (unlike those who rave about it) I honestly didn't find the process therapeutic. What I need is a simple, quick layout that's as easy to fill as changing a few cell colours. With each new idea, I type it into the intended publish date and change the cell colours below to either yellow (to be started or in progress) or grey (not applicable). Then it's easy to keep track of what I still need to do to turn everything green, i.e. live and shared across all relevant social channels. It's surprising how much clarity such a straightforward process has brought so far.

I sincerely hope you find the template useful... or that it gives you some ideas on creating your own planner!
